History

Beginnings

The earth makes the wine and the vine makes the wineare the two great metaphors that govern our winemaking practice.

Set in a privileged location, in the Miño river Valleys, 30 kilometers from both Vigo and Ourense, Adegas Valtea is nestled in an area that has a special microclimate that ripens grapes to the level of maturity required for the elaboration of a quality of wine, that is beyond any doubt.

Vineyards

Valtea's cradle

Almost all strains used for making broths are Adegas Valtea property, it is 150,000 square meters and another 70,000 Adegas Valtea where soils are fully leased for Albariño grape.

On the bank of the Miño river, with the Portuguese strains at front, and a north-south orientation, the vineyards of Adegas Valtea develop in a uneven ground with a slight slope formed by real steps or balconies hunging in the Miño's basin. That topography and orientation allows one of the most perfect ripening of grapes in the area.

In the center of the viticultural exploitation are the winery installations covering an area of over 1,000 square meters. Equipped with stainless steel tanks, neumatic press, tanks for maceration and fermentation barrels for aging in French and American oak.

The grape harvest in Valtea's Wine Cellar

  • In mid-September, and always looking for the optimum ripeness is done manually vintage of our Albariño grape.

  • Each cluster is cut and placed in plastic boxes weighing never exceeds 18 kgs to prevent breakage or crushing of the berries. It is transported as quickly as possible to the winery, where are downloaded and processed.

  • From the hopper, and through a pump are driven to the pneumatic presses, of stainless steel, making a softly pressed, never more than 1.2kgs / cm2 pressure, so that the musts are always top quality. The musts are taken to the fermentation tanks where are debourbage. The run juice is racked by gravity into another tank, to ferment there at controlled temperature for about twenty days.

  • Once fermented, wine is removed from the vat and conducted filtering processes and stabilization. At their best moment, it is sent to tasting the Regulatory Council of the Rias Baixas, which they come the analytical control and the delivery of the back labels and documents certifying that the wine is quality and has passed the quality checks.
